Review: By Mutual Desire

By Mutual Desire
By Mutual Desire by Dalton Diaz

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An all inclusive resort which caters to sexual fantasies and helps a marriage grows stronger? Where is the signup sheet? Ms. Diaz’s By Mutual Desire is a hot tale of love, lost, sexual freedom and above all – communicating openly with the one you love. For a BDSM contemporary novel, the consistent message of open communication with trust is fabulous. Ms. Diaz never once preached or lectured. Instead, she cleverly demonstrated how open communication between lovers can heal deep wounds and build a stronger relationship.

Every once in a while, a book moves me so much, that a song comes to mind which I’d like to share with all of you. The song is not exactly the situation between the main characters Kelly and Ryan. It does show how Kelly feels about Ryan after ten years of marriage. The song is from Adele, Chasing Pavements.

“Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste even if I knew my place
Should I leave it there?
Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?”

Kelly loves Ryan desperately. Her life with him has been good. Ryan loves Kelly too. There is just one big pink elephant in the room. It is Ryan’s deceased twin, Greg. This was an interesting conflict which Ms. Diaz does a great job of cultivating to generate pain, longing and regret. The reader is drawn in whether they want to or not. Oddly enough, this book is created around a long marriage therapy session. Yet it doesn’t feel this way. Instead, the reader is a voyeur salivating at the different sexual healing sessions. The healing sessions are held in places named Toy Factory, Anal Mountain, Punishment Hall and Tongue Alley. The sexual acts encouraged in these places are a fetish lover’s wet dream come true. The fact that each of the fantasies brought to life are tailored to the participants in the resort is even more amazing.

The characters are truly engaging in this story. The reader can understand Kelly’s frustration as well as Ryan’s frightened denials. Even the secondary characters are likeable. Mai and Jackson are a hot couple whom I’d personal loved to get to know a little better too. Their body piercings and anal expertise are definitely bonuses when partnering up with them. This story didn’t just contain hetero sex. The reader is treated to a loving gay couple as well as a lesbian couple. The different permutations of sexual joining including the BDSM was blazing hot.

Ms. Diaz creates a Fantasy Island similar to the on in Exit to Eden by Anne Rice, however this one is more powerful and graphic. The descriptions of action and overlaying the personal feelings of the characters were well done. This short story is tightly written without a single waste word. There were a couple of times the sentence structure was awkward as well as an incorrect usage of a word. Other than these minor editing errors, the story flowed very well. Every thread was brought together with a lovely satisfying conclusion. This BDSM contemporary romance story is highly recommended to all kinky readers. Buy the book!
