Review: Fatal Threat

Fatal Threat Fatal Threat by Marie Force
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Politicians and law enforcement may head butt every so often, but what happens when a husband is in politics and the wife is in law enforcement? My real question for this story is why have I never read Ms. Force before? Her name is familiar to me and I thought about reading her books and somehow always shied away. Ms. Force is now on my list to auto read. I really enjoyed this book. Even though I started this series on book number eleven, it was easy for me to get up to speed. I may have enjoyed this book even more if I started with the first book in the series. Still, this book can be read as a standalone.

The plot development is what really pulled me into the story. Sam Holland is a lieutenant for DC Metro police. She is used to being the protector. She is the shield and no one is going to stand in the line of fire for her. Usually this is fine but when her personal life includes being the wife of the vice president, things become a lot more complicated. The threat to her husband, Nick, forces family and some friends to be placed in locked down. The execution of the lockdown into an undisclosed safe house was particularly scary. I think if I were in the same situation, I would be just as upset and angry as Sam. She is an independent woman who is used to calling the shots or at least working to resolve the problem. She is not the problem or waiting for someone to save her. Ms. Force creates an excellent conflict between personal and business life. It is so realistic that one can't help but wonder how this can be resolved. I can appreciate Nick's worry yet understand Sam's frustration. This conflict does martial strife which does not help the matters.

When Sam finally forces the Secret Service to allow her to participate in figuring out the threat, the story picks up the pace. The tale becomes a heart pounding non-stop action flick with words flying off the pages. It reminds me of the TV series 24 hours. It is hard to put this book down once the first page is turned. From beginning to end, Ms. Force kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out the culprit as quickly as Sam. I must say, the twists and turns threw me and I couldn't quite put the picture together until a few chapters near the end. As soon as Sam had the last missing piece, that was when the picture came into sharp focus and I gasped in shock. What will happen? This story leaves it slightly in a cliffhanger. Because the ramifications that will roll through the government due to the villain's insane plot is immense. I immediately went out to find the next book in this series. I can not wait to read it. This romantic suspense is highly recommended to readers who enjoy fast paces stories with a strong female lead supported by an equally strong male.
